Abstract: This technical paper introduces the architectural implementation of VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes in an IBM XIV Storage System using IBM Spectrum Control Base Edition. This paper also describes how to set up Virtual Volumes, and perform various virtual machine (VM) operations using the underline Virtual Volumes created on an IBM XIV Storage System. IBM’s integration of virtual volumes in XIV is based on VMware API for Storage Awareness (VASA2.0) delivered by IBM Spectrum Control Base Edition.
