Abstract: This white paper contains step-by-step processes to enable on-premises multisite cloud protection using Microsoft Azure Site Recovery with IBM XIV storage area network (SAN) replication. It walks administrators through IBM XIV 11.6.x and Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) enhancements that allow Microsoft Hyper-V replicas to use a SAN replication channel to take advantage of synchronous or asynchronous mirroring and other important disaster recovery (DR) benefits. With just a few clicks within the Azure Site Recovery management portal, Information Technology administrators can perform planned and unplanned site failovers that can recover an entire site and bring it online within minutes thus averting painful financial consequences commonly linked to extended site outages.
