Abstract: SAP NetWeaver Landscape Virtualization Management (SAP LVM) software helps you to improve your business agility by simplifying and automating the efforts required to configure, provision, deploy, monitor, and manage your SAP systems in both physical and virtualized infrastructures. IBM has been supporting SAP LVM since early 2012. IBM’s implementation of the SAP LVM cloning feature leverages IBM Tivoli® Storage FlashCopy® Manager (now: IBM Spectrum Protect Snapshot®). This paper provides a basic overview of SAP system cloning in a virtualized environment including IBM SAN Volume Controller / IBM Storwize® Storage Systems, VMware and SUSE Linux. It is based on a proof of concept that showed that the IBM Storage Adapter for SAP LVM can support storage volume (LUN) attachment to Linux using VMware “physical Raw Device Mapping (pRDM)”.
