WebSphere for z/OS - Feature Pack for Web Services
Washington Systems Center
Abstract: At the end of June, 2007 IBM released new web services function for WebSphere Application Server on z/OS. In the past that new function would have been rolled up in a maintenance release. Now we have a new model where certain new function is made available as "feature packs" -- which are optional updates you may choose to implement or not implement, based on your needs.
This white paper documents what the new Feature Pack for Web Services (FPWS) provides, and how to install and configure it. It involves updating an existing configuration so it can link to and make use of this new functionality. The process is not difficult, but it may be unfamiliar territory for those who've not done this before. So this paper provides a step-by-step guide to installing, configuring and validating the new Feature Pack for Web Services.
New function included in this Feature Pack:
o Web Services Reliable Messaging (WS-RM)
o Web Services Addressing (WS-Addressing)
o SOAP Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism (MTOM)
o Web Services Secure Conversations (WS-SC)
o New standards-based programming model support:
o Java API for XML Web Services (JAX-WS 2.0)
o Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB 2.0)
o SOAP with Attachments API for Java (SAAJ 1.3)
o Streaming API for XML (StAX 1.0)
