Founded in 1962, Walmart Stores, Inc. operates a chain of roughly 11,500 hypermarkets, discount department stores and grocery stores in 28 countries, as well as e-commerce sites in 11 countries. The company is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas and employs more than 2.2 million people.

Business need
To decrease time to market, Walmart adopted agile development methodology. But to support its developers in their agile approach, the company needed to be able to quickly give them computer resources.

Walmart created a cloud platform that’s driven by APIs. The platform gives developers on-demand access to the resources they need, including infrastructure, storage, databases and web servers. The Walmart cloud also helps the business scale to meet unpredictable spikes in demand.

- 99 percent decrease in time needed to deliver resources to developers, from five days to 10 seconds - Accelerates time to market by giving developers on-demand access to the resources they need - Supports spikes in usage with a flexible cloud platform
