ARMONK, NY - 10 Oct 2005: IBM today announced new virtualization technology offerings and previewed upcoming technologies that extend the company's more than 30-year lead in the virtualization marketplace. The company also unveiled a new virtualization partner program for software companies to write applications on IBM virtualization technology.

The new Virtualization Engine(TM) offerings, ranging from tape storage to software "wizards," are designed to meet the needs of clients across multiple industries and enable them to use virtualization to dramatically lower the economics of IT and simplify the operation of a business. IBM also announced a virtualization partner program that enables independent software vendors (ISVs) to build solutions on IBM virtualization platforms to help reduce solution design time when multiple, tested building blocks have already been pre-tested.

"IBM's strength in the virtualization market is represented by the breadth and depth of our capabilities that enable us to virtualize nearly 80 percent of a client's technology infrastructure," said Kevin Leahy, Director, IBM Virtualization Engine. "Reducing technology complexity is a journey. With today's announcement, IBM simplifies the management of diverse systems for its customers, who are turning to IBM as the vendor with the most experience, sophisticated tools and the clearest virtualization roadmap."

Today's virtualization announcements include:

Today's delivery of virtualization capabilities is the next phase of IBM's commitment to deliver virtualization across its entire systems line of products. In July, IBM introduced the Virtualization Engine 2.0 as part of IBM's comprehensive Systems agenda.

"Ready For Virtualization" Program Provides Interoperability Solutions with ISVs
Underscoring IBM's focus on interoperability in multi-vendor environments, IBM today also announced the Virtualization Engine Family has launched a "Ready for Virtualization" program that allows independent software vendors (ISVs) to test and validate virtualization solutions on IBM's eServer platforms. The Ready for Virtualization program complements the Ready for Grid program announced last week. Through these programs, applications are tested with IBM virtualization technology to help identify interoperable solutions for customers. Already some ISVs have validated their solutions including eReplenishment, Pegasystems Inc. and StreamServe.
