IBM Strengthens Solution for Middleware Targeted at Small and Medium Businesses

Cooperation With 3 Companies: Uchida Yoko, SSJ, Nippon Aitechs

TOKYO - 30 Jun 2004: IBM Japan (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: T. Ohtoshi) announced cooperation with Uchida Yoko Co., Ltd (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: S. Mukai), SSJ Co., Ltd (Head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Y. Sato), and Nippon Aitechs (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: K. Hayashi) as part of its ISV Advantage program launched worldwide for Small and Medium Businesses targeted at Independent Software Vendors (ISVs). The agreement will increase the total participants in this program to 13 companies in Japan.

ISV Advantage is a program that enables global ISVs developing excellent solutions to team up and promote cooperation. The aim is to develop solutions for SMB ISVs operating on IBM middleware such as WebSphere and DB2, etc. IBM Japan provides a free software verification facility and development tools to companies participating in ISV Advantage, as well as assistance in marketing fees and marketing channels.

99% of all Japanese companies have less than 1,000 employees, and the demand for IT from these companies reaches 3600 billion Yen (US$ 36 billion), according to a survey conducted by Access Market International (AMI) Partners in September 2003. It is noted this market has a high rate of "firewall, ADSL and other IT infrastructure installation, but a very low percentage in CRM, SCM and other business solutions installation presently, and has a desire to install them," according to Nikkei Advantage's "Survey on IT Trend in Small and Medium Businesses" October 2003.

In order to expand the Small and Medium Businesses market, IBM introduced in October last year the IBM Express Portfolio which comprises IBM software, hardware, and services that meet the requirements of Small and Medium Businesses in function and scale at affordable prices. The ease of installation and management, in addition to high scalability, are strong selling points. IBM believes in working with business partners to build a conducive ecosystem. The announcement today on the three new partners is a strategy that centers on combining partner company solutions and making use of the IBM Express Portfolio to build value among IBM partners and customers.

Cooperation description with Uchida Yoko
To promote development of solution that combines Uchida's integrated business software library [SuperCocktail] with IBM's DB2 Universal Database software. SuperCocktail is a business system package, the best practice accumulated over a period of more than 40 years by Uchida that supports business processes owned by Japanese enterprises. Besides main jobs like sales management, accounting, logistics, and food production cost, it has rich templates for each industry such as food industry, trading company, packaging material, etc., and suitable for medium sized businesses with employees between 100~300 persons. It has been well received by customers and more than 2,800 companies have been using it.

IBM Japan will provide DB2 training to more than 200 companies using SuperCocktail provided by Uchida, and use IBM sales channel to expand the business of partner.

Cooperation description with SSJ
To promote development of solution using SSJ integrated business package [SuperStream] front-end product that complies with IBM WebSphere. SuperStream is mainly for financial accounting system that includes human resources, payroll, strategic management assistance, distributed manpower system -- an ERP package. As an ERP for medium businesses, it enjoys good reputation, and has a track record of more than 3,000 installations.

Cooperation description with Nippon Aitechs
To promote development of solution using Nippon Aitechs' Web compatible integrated human resources management system [ePro St@ff] with DB2 and WebSphere. [ePro St@ff] is 100% Java-based open source product compatible with Linux, Windows®, UNIX ® (AIX ®) for human resource, payroll, recruitment with submission, approval work flow function. Since it is Web compatible, multiple companies such as associated companies and group companies, and business unit management is possible. The product is well received by customers, including series product, installation track record has surpassed 1,400 companies.
