ARMONK, NY - 25 Jun 2004: IBM announced today the 2000th customer installation of the mySAP(TM) Business Suite family of business solutions on the IBM eServer iSeries platform with Esquire, a leading fashion distributor with high end brands such as Guy Laroche and Jordache. In the last three years, the number of SAP® solution-based installations on the iSeries server has doubled from 1,000 to 2,000 installations, signaling a rapid adoption by customers of SAP's enterprise business applications on IBM eServer iSeries servers.

Esquire, based in South Korea, is using the IBM eServer iSeries Model i825 and i870 to power its implementation of mySAP Business Suite to support 600 users for its retail and point of sales operations. In the forty plus years that Esquire has been in business, the company has grown to include multiple locations. The combination of iSeries servers with the capacity on demand features offer Esquire the ability to meet its growing business needs.

"IBM's eServer iSeries equipped with capacity on demand to run our SAP applications keeps our business operations running smoothly and helps meet unpredictable growth cycles," said Jae-Beom Kim, CIO of Esquire. "In the short time we have had this system, we have already seen cost benefits and increased performance saving us valuable time and resources."

Another customer, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. one of the world's largest hotel and leisure companies, recently upgraded to the iSeries Model 890 to power its SAP financials application. The iSeries platform serves as the backbone of most its backoffice operations including general ledger, payroll, and sales and distribution. With the new system, Starwood can provide payroll services for over 50,000 employees, yet close its hotel books in less than two days. In addition, from a single location, Starwood can provide its local hotel managers across North America with budget and forecasting, including room occupancy and average rates to help them better manage individual properties.

"Starwood has used SAP solutions to create one of the most sophisticated financial systems in the hospitality industry," said Kevin Malik, Senior Director of Corporate Information Systems, Starwood. "With solutions from SAP and IBM, we have been able to boost the consistency and accuracy of our management information. With the new system, we have dramatically reduced our total cost of ownership and the system itself requires minimal intervention to keep it running."

Since 1995, IBM has supported SAP solutions on its AS/400 and thereafter on its iSeries servers delivering a platform known for its legendary reliability, security and ease of use. The ability to integrate applications onto the iSeries platform can help speed deployments of SAP solutions and reduce the overall IT costs for businesses.

"The rapid growth of SAP solutions on the iSeries platform in the last three years is a testament that customers are finding value in the iSeries attributes of a highly reliable and secure environment that is easy to manage," said Al Zollar, general manager for IBM eServer iSeries. "By integrating applications onto the iSeries platform, customers can simplify their IT environment and help reduce their overall IT costs."
