IBM Expands Financing Business in Support of IBM Life Sciences


ARMONK, N.Y. & CHICAGO - 01 Dec 2003: IBM today announced it was expanding the scope of its leading information technology (IT) financing business to help customers in the health care, life sciences and pharmaceutical industries acquire complete solutions, including medical technology.

IBM's move was announced at the Radiological Society of North America's annual meeting in Chicago. The new offering is designed to help new and existing customers to acquire the IT and IT-related medical technology they need today. Working closely with IBM's Life Sciences sales teams in the United States, IBM Global Financing will offer specialized leasing and financing programs to help customers in the health care, life sciences and pharmaceutical industries benefit today from new or used medical technology as well as the latest IT products.

"Businesses in the health care, life sciences and pharmaceutical industries now can acquire complete solutions from IBM and its Business Partners -- from the information technology infrastructure they need to the sophisticated medical technology that can provide the best care -- all with little or no upfront investment."

With the new offering, IBM will offer attractive rates to health care and life sciences organizations for IBM IT hardware, software and services as well as medical technology equipment, software and services. The breadth of medical technology equipment eligible for the new offering ranges from medical imaging devices such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT) scanners and X-ray machines to gamma cameras, lasers and ultrasound devices.

In addition, IBM's long-standing experience in asset disposition services is being expanded to assist customers in acquiring refurbished medical technology or to remarket their older medical technology.
