ARMONK, N.Y. - 14 Nov 2014: IBM (NYSE: IBM), a leading provider of software quality and testing solutions, today announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders Quadrant of the 2014 Magic Quadrant for Integrated Software Quality Suites.1

For the report, Gartner evaluated 14 worldwide vendors on their completeness of vision and ability to execute.

Testing is one of the key phases in the software delivery life cycle. Testing practices have been steadily maturing to deliver improved user success, but business expectations for dramatically faster software delivery, coupled with increased complexity from agile practices and emerging technologies like mobile and cloud computing, have created a new standard for quality assurance teams: test faster without compromising quality.

“Our positioning by Gartner confirms our vision and execution of a comprehensive approach to software quality management and testing, which allows organizations to implement essential DevOps practices,” said Kristof Kloeckner, General Manager of IBM Rational software. “We will continue to work with our clients to define the next era of testing capabilities for evolving areas of mobile and cloud, as well as emerging areas such as the Internet of Things.”

IBM is helping companies across the globe unlock the full potential of quality management and testing by automating test practices, and advancing emerging areas like integration testing and continuous verification.

“The IBM DevOps solutions – specifically continuous testing with service virtualization – have made it possible to do a level of testing that was previously impossible, enabling our customers to deploy higher quality software faster, and at a lower cost," said Gary Thornhill, General Manager of Sandhata Technologies Ltd. “What once took up to three weeks now takes three hours. By removing testing bottlenecks and setting a new, accelerated pace of software testing, we’re able to more quickly uncover system and integration defects much earlier in the development cycle, and get software to market faster.”

About IBM DevOps – Continuous Testing
Continuous testing is a critical part of the handoff between development and IT operations. Successful Agile teams using DevOps practices integrate testing into their software development lifecycle to test earlier in the development cycle (often referred to as “shift-left”) when problems can be fixed cheaper, provide project teams with continuous feedback, and help eliminate traditional testing bottlenecks such as unavailable test environments. IBM’s comprehensive continuous testing solution covers UI and integration test automation, performance testing and service virtualization, ensuring that customers can approach all of their DevOps testing challenges with confidence.

About IBM Continuous Engineering – Continuous Verification

Continuous engineering is an enterprise capability that speeds delivery of sophisticated and connected products by helping businesses to evolve their engineering practices to adapt to the accelerating pace of business change. Continuous verification is a key practice helping to boost quality by reducing testing times and costs and enabling earlier and more frequent testing.
