ISTANBUL, Turkey - 05 Dec 2011: Zorlu Group, a leading Turkish conglomerate that produces everything from yarn to LCD televisions, is turning to IBM (NYSE: IBM) to manage its increasingly complex and expanding IT infrastructure.

The new multi-million dollar, seven-year agreement, which was signed in March, 2011, calls for IBM to manage Zorlu's server infrastructure, networks, and manufacturing software. This new agreement follows a five-year services contract between the two companies.

"The agreement with IBM will enable Zorlu Group to become more competitive and improve business performance, while reducing operating costs,” said Hamza Cihan Sarı, CIO, Zorlu Group. “By enabling faster and more efficient rollout of new services, our employees will focus on adding real value to Zorlu's clients in Turkey and abroad."

As part of the agreement, IBM will provide Zorlu with a single technical infrastructure that will enable the company to manage IT services for its 50 companies across 50 separate locations. This will include server, database and application management, end-user support – including helpdesk and desktop standardization – and network maintenance.

IBM will complement the IT services and round out Zorlu’s smarter computing environment with efficient, high performance systems and storage. Included will be a pair of IBM POWER7-based systems, the IBM Power 750 Express and IBM Power 720 Express, and a dozen IBM System x servers, three of which will feature VMware virtualization technology to help extend processing power and better utilize computing capacity. In addition, the solution will include the high performance and easy to manage IBM XIV Storage System, which also supports virtualization.

By integrating heterogeneous systems at every layer of the technology stack, the Zorlu companies will be able to maximize computing resources according to workloads. In addition, IBM will combine advanced server and storage virtualization with new intelligent system management tools to provide the Zorlu companies with improved flexibility, increased service levels and lower operating costs.

"Since 2006, IBM has been supporting Zorlu Group using advanced technologies to ensure they are well-equipped to meet the increasing market challenges," said Michel Charouk, Country general manager, IBM Turkey. "Now, IBM’s smarter computing approach will provide Zorlu with even more dynamic and flexible environment where IT assets and resources are managed effectively and are in line with Zorlu’s business priorities."
