RALEIGH, NC - 23 Feb 2003: IBM and Kyrus announced today that Minyard Food Stores, a regional, privately owned grocery chain in Texas, has installed the IBM SurePOS Application Client/Server Environment (ACE) grocery application in order to improve the checkout process and reduce training time for store personnel.

Minyard will be using a new touch-screen SureVision interface for its operators and plans to take advantage of the new ACE SureVision feature that supports dual displays facing both the checkout clerk and the customer. Minyard plans to add flat panel displays that will deliver more information to Minyard's shoppers and provide additional advertising and promotional opportunities at the point of sale.

IBM ACE for the 4690 operating system environment is a powerful, comprehensive grocery application software that provides the capabilities supermarket retailers need. IBM ACE improves throughput at checkout, increases profitability and maximizes reliability.

ACE combines checkout support, electronic marketing, data maintenance, account management and other accounting processes. It is fast and versatile, performing sub second price lookups and handling multiple tenders, including Women and Infant Children (WIC), Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT), and checks.

The dual POS display feature allows grocery retailers to run an easy-to-use, touch screen graphical user interface for operators and a separate graphical display to keep shoppers engaged, promote special items or enable in-lane advertising.

Minyard operates ACE on IBM 4694 point-of-sale systems with the IBM 4690 operating system for POS. Minyard also uses IBM eServer xSeries servers in its stores, as well as IBM eServer pSeries and IBM eServer iSeries systems. It utilizes IBM services for ACE and SureVision customization and enhancements. Kyrus, an IBM Business Partner, provides the IBM hardware and ACE consulting, along with training and implementation services.
