St - 16 May 1998: .. As the Information Technology Supplier to the World Golf Village, IBM is giving new meaning to golf links by playing an integral role in connecting golf enthusiasts worldwide to the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, which opens to the public on May 19, 1998.

IBM is combining its expertise in e-business and multimedia technology solutions to deliver a compelling, interactive experience for fans -- whether they visit the Village itself or via cyberspace on the Internet.

Representing a unique collaboration of the world's major golf organizations, World Golf Village creates an environment that celebrates the history, tradition and values of the sport, while providing an entertaining and educational experience for visitors from around the world.

IBM's sponsorship of World Golf Village includes the development of four key applications and provision of the computer hardware, software and systems integration skills to run them:

Golf lovers who want to stay in touch with the leaders, discover what makes great golfers great, book a conference or explore the new Slammer and the Squire golf course can do all of these via cyberspace on the Web at

The site, which went live on December 15, 1997, is following a phased roll out with new features and content being added monthly.
