ARMONK, NY - 18 Apr 2008: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that it has been named the 2008 North American Video Surveillance Software Company of the Year by Frost & Sullivan. IBM Global Technology Services has received this award due to its commitment to enhance its customers' physical security and its ability to develop solutions that help address customers' digital video surveillance needs.

Frost & Sullivan identified the recipient of this award based on the following criteria: revenue and market-share growth; proof of success executing a restructuring strategy; new market penetration; marketing, promotion, and visibility of the company through various media; evidence of success through strategy innovation; technological innovation and leadership; increased name recognition; and improvement in customer satisfaction and loyalty levels.

Also, key to IBM receiving this award, is its leading-edge IBM Smart Surveillance Solution (SSS) security technology, which enables clients to perform more effective data analysis of video sequences either in real-time or from recordings. It can help clients gather critical information, reduce costs, and improve response time by integrating data from multiple sources -- including video cameras, radar, sensors and audio inputs -- and applying metadata search parameters and event prioritization criteria.

IBM has proven its digital video surveillance capabilities through real world implementations that go well beyond the controlled environments of research labs and prototypes. In 2007, IBM won video surveillance contracts with various government, retail, education, and financial institutions.

"In recognition for its excellence in developing solutions to improve functionality and reduce business problems and complexity for end users, Frost & Sullivan is proud to present IBM with its 2008 North American Video Surveillance Software Company of the Year Award," said Dilip Sarangan, industry analyst with Frost & Sullivan's AutoID and Security Practice. "In the year since entering the market, IBM has created ripples in the industry and developed into one of the heavyweights in video surveillance. The Smart Surveillance Solution (SSS) is recognized by partners, competitors and end-users as the most robust video management engine with integrated analytics."

"IBM is focused on delivering high-value, innovative solutions to our clients everyday -- to be acknowledged for doing this type of work in the digital video surveillance market is a great honor," said Jeanne Jang, IBM Digital Video Surveillance Global Lead.
