RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C - 26 Jan 1999: ...IBM today announced two new models of the IBM Access Utility, offering small and medium-sized businesses a wide range of Thin Server, virtual private network and voice/fax/data functions at a price 50 percent lower than other available offerings.

IBM's new Access Utility models 10F and 10H feature one adapter slot for a customized solution for small to medium-sized businesses and remote office locations. Customers who are deploying network stations for cost savings and management advantages will also benefit from the new models' integrated Thin Server support. Network resources are conserved by using the easily configured Thin Server function, which works in conjunction with AS/400s and other servers to provide affordable, rapid network station startup.

Another key function the new models of the Access Utility offer is advanced multiprotocol virtual private networks (VPNs). Models 10F and 10H offer small to medium-sized organizations VPN capabilities that ensure secure access to data from remote locations, and also provides secure connections to the Internet or company backbone. Customers can substantially reduce their overall networking costs by using the Access Utility's voice/data integration features. Analog PBXs, key systems, single telephone sets or fax machines can be directly connected to the Access Utility, which incorporates voice/fax traffic with data traffic over a single network interface.

"IBM recognizes that small to medium-sized environments and branch office customers need an affordable access product with a rich feature-set that is easy to deploy and manage," said Jose Garcia, Vice President Workgroup Networks, IBM Networking Hardware Division. "IBM's Access Utility Models 10F and 10H offer enterprise-class Thin Server, VPN and voice capabilities to small environments at a highly competitive price point."
