SOMERS, N.Y - 08 Jun 1999: -- To meet the increased multimedia demands of consumers, classrooms and campuses, IBM today announced a new line of ThinkPad i Series notebook computers with enhanced multimedia capabilities, including a home TV DVD movie player.

"The Present and the Promise of Mobile Technology," one of several research studies commissioned by IBM, was conducted by Yankelovich Partners found that consumers are increasingly relying on mobile technology to achieve a balance between their personal and professional lives. Sixty percent of the respondents surveyed mentioned that the ability to use their mobile systems to work at home when either family or job demands required it was one of the most appealing aspects of the technology. As notebook PCs rival their desktop counterparts in performance and functionality, professionals and students have discovered the freedom and flexibility made possible through mobile technology.
