ARMONK, NY - 03 May 2007: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced it has signed a deal to provide software to Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC). VAC's partnership with IBM will establish a complete process to efficiently and effectively develop and deliver software that meets legislative compliance requirements.

VAC provides exemplary, client-centered services and benefits that respond to the needs of veterans and their families, in recognition of their services to Canada; and to keep the memory of their achievements and sacrifices alive for all Canadians. The Department meets its responsibilities through its various programs. These include programs for disability pensions, veterans' allowances, pension advocacy, health care and commemoration. They provide compensation for hardships arising from disabilities and lost economic opportunities, innovative health and social services, professional legal assistance and recognition of the achievements and sacrifices of Canadians during periods of war and conflict.

Meeting compliance mandates and ensuring current and new applications can be maintained over the long term are priorities for VAC. IBM will provide VAC with a complete IT software development lifecycle solution leveraging the IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform. VAC will use IBM Rational ClearCase, IBM Rational ClearQuest, IBM RequisitePro, IBM Rational Method Composer and IBM Rational Software Architect to enable tight integration throughout its software delivery process, from requirements and development to testing and documentation. This will enhance VAC's ability to efficiently administer and track benefits and pension for its many clients.

Complete, end-to-end software management is critical for effective software delivery and timely and efficient reaction to changing business programs and delivery methods. Unifying development teams by providing common access to development assets, communication alerts and workflow processes is essential. Having a consistent, reliable and re-useable software development and deployment process, VAC can reduce IT costs and improve management capabilities and quality, while ensuring their enterprise applications perform and scale to meet their clients' demands.
