RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C - 23 Feb 2000: -- IBM today announced that it has joined with Cisco Systems to provide Cisco customers with IBM's industry-leading host integration software, providing Web access to applications and data that reside on host computers. This announcement furthers a joint technology and marketing alliance announced by IBM and Cisco in 1999.

Additionally, IBM host integration products are now certified as part of Cisco's Enterprise Associates Program (EAP), meaning that the products have been tested for interoperability. IBM's host integration products included in the EAP are IBM Host On-Demand®, IBM Personal Communications® and IBM Host Publisher®.

Cisco customers who purchase (or have purchased) a TN3270 server can receive 50 no-charge licenses of IBM Host On-Demand. Host On-Demand provides Java-based terminal emulation from a standard Web browser.

"Through this agreement, IBM is offering our customers an industry-leading solution for Web-to-host integration," said Grover Smith, global director, IBM Strategic Alliance, Cisco Systems. "This collaboration marks another significant technology advantage resulting from the Cisco and IBM alliance. Cisco's premiere networking systems, combined with IBM's world-class host integration software, give our customers a robust e-business solution to enter the Global Internet Economy."

Recently, IDC named IBM the number one vendor for traditional host access. IDC also placed IBM in its leadership quadrant in the browser-based, Web-to-host market.

"With up to 80 percent of all business data sitting on large servers and other host systems, e-businesses need simple, effective ways to extend their data to intranet, extranet and Internet users," said Ed Harbour, director of connected e-business marketing, IBM Transformation and Integration Software. "Teaming up with Cisco to provide our leading-edge host integration software will help our mutual customers bring new life to existing host applications and data."
