Initially implemented in just eight weeks last fall, GEExpress.com recently underwent a successful migration to IBM's WebSphere Commerce Suite version 4.1, which also leverages DB2 Universal Database. GECITS will employ new features of the technology such as auctions, personalization, and relationship marketing.
GEExpress.com offers parts from more than 20 manufacturers of PCs, laptops, servers, peripherals and other computer equipment. Customers who visit the site can search for parts by manufacturer, part number, and product description. Second-generation site enhancements include customer-focused features such as memory configurators and wizards, as well as increased product selection.
GE Capital IT Solutions wanted to expand its GE Express Parts business by offering a streamlined resource for procurement of out-of-warranty and obsolete parts via GEExpress.com. As one of the first transaction-based e-commerce initiatives within GECITS, GEExpress.com showcases the company's commitment to e-commerce.
"The excitement that GEExpress.com has generated within GE and with our customers is overwhelming; and it is only the beginning," explains Michael Blystone, E-business Leader, GE Managed Service Solutions. "IBM has played an important role from an e-commerce software perspective and has been an invaluable resource in providing online business expertise."
As part of the GEExpress.com initiative, GECITS continues to build strong relationships with industry leading suppliers. Many major hardware manufacturers, such as IBM, are among those companies whose parts are supported on the site. GEExpress.com is constantly enhancing product selection to keep pace with consumer demand.
IBM's WebSphere Commerce Suite, the first integrated e-commerce solution, provides GE Capital IT Solutions with a wide range of easy-to-use features and functions for content management, relationship marketing, order management, and payment management for all types of Internet businesses, including business-to-business, business-to-consumer, and e-marketplaces.
As the foundation for e-business and business-to-business transactions, DB2 Universal Database provides GE Capital IT Solutions with the power of the industry's first multimedia, Web-ready relational database management system. DB2 Universal Database combines integrated power for business intelligence, content management, enterprise information portals and e-business with industry-leading performance and reliability to drive the most demanding industry solutions.
