The agreement will first be rolled out under separate local and business agreements in the United States, France, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom during the course of this year.

"As we speed into the age of digital information, new technologies will lead to completely new ways of doing business in our industry. Doug Elix, senior vice president and group executive, IBM Global Services, said: "Aventis is in one of the most exciting and dynamic industries today, as Life Sciences and information technology converge. We will work with Aventis to help deliver the high level of performance it needs to build the company's next-generation technology infrastructure. I am confident that our expertise in e-business and our biocomputing capabilities in IBM Research will be able to add value as this relationship evolves and grows."

The agreement supports the drive by Aventis to focus on the strategic application of information technology, whilst ensuring its IT infrastructure is managed uniformly and efficiently across the world. It will provide Aventis with the flexibility to rapidly adjust its IT infrastructure requirements up or down, as well as accelerating access to new technologies.
