- 18 May 2000: IBM* today announced enhancements to its industry-leading print management software, Infoprint Manager, that deliver new capabilities and performance for producing the output of e-business in heterogeneous network environments. Infoprint* Manager for AIX* V3.2 provides improved print quality, print management control, job submission interfaces and ease-of-use. Existing Infoprint Manager V3 customers can upgrade to this version at no charge.

Existing PSF/AIX* and Infoprint Manager V2 customers will also be offered an entry level version of the software that addresses basic print management services. By offering a server-only product, production print centers now have access to a lower priced option for managing and driving printers from multiple hosts.

The Driving Force
Infoprint Manager for AIX V3.2 provides the systems, connectivity, and applications needed to drive high-speed, color and monochrome digital printers, workgroup printers and impact printers. Improving productivity in print shops, traditional data processing centers, the software provides automatic printer problem detection and reporting to allow remote proactive problem handling by help desks and operators.

The software also integrates job ticketing, spool management, and scanner input functions with familiar, easy to use interfaces. Supporting fax and color e-mail output, Infoprint Manager enables the output of cost-effective customized documents and the printing of large documents, such as novels or textbooks, in print runs as short as a single copy.

"Understanding the importance of output management for enterprises of all sizes, IBM made these enhancements to increase our ability to help customers, such as University of Illinois, North Carolina Supreme Court and Barnes & Noble, as well as IBM, continue to implement e-business solutions," said David Dobson, vice president of global marketing and strategy, IBM Printing Systems. "With this latest release of Infoprint Manager, now small businesses in an AIX environment can more economically take advantage of its benefits and grow into utilizing its full capabilities."

IBM-Proven Scalabilty
Demonstrating the scalability of Infoprint Manager, IBM Global Services has implemented Infoprint Manager to support printing for fulfillment activities of the IBM Personal Systems Group and distributed print for company's internal operations in the U.S.

Running in an SAP** environment, where print jobs are originating from 40 SAP application servers, Infoprint Manager is driving more than 320 IBM workgroup and impact printers located in 12 Personal Systems Group warehouses, supporting 3,500 users. To support IBM's internal operations, Infoprint Manager is driving distributed printing of more than 170,000 users.

IBM Global Services has extensive plans to continue increasing Infoprint Manager support, including adding fax and e-mail support, as well as extending the service to worldwide locations.

The same level of success experienced as a result of this implementation can also be achieved driving multiple high-end printers for the output of documents, such as mission critical statements.
