The survey results put IBM in front of a number of notable PC rivals, including HP, Dell and Compaq.

The survey was conducted at GigaWorld(c) US in late May and its respondents were IT professionals from the US, including CIO's and IT Specialists. IBM garnered 27% of the votes - - with HP, Dell and Compaq coming in at 16%, 14% and 13%, respectively.

In Giga's assessment of the survey, the popularity of IBM's new mobile and desktop offerings - - combined with IBM services, were noted as contributing factors to the IBM rating - - and are the key reasons why IBM's Most Trusted Vendor status should remain in tact for the foreseeable future.

2000 is the largest product introduction year in the history of the IBM Personal Systems Group. 90% of IBM's mobile and desktop products will be new by the fourth quarter of this year, led by the innovative new line of IBM NetVista desktop computers, and the IBM ThinkPad mobile computers.
