IBM and i2 Expand e-Business Alliance; i2 Adopts IBM's DB2 Universal Database for Development Environment

SOMERS, N.Y. - 12 Jul 2000: -Expanding their alliance to provide the first end-to-end solution for business-to business (B2B) e-commerce, IBM today announced that i2 Technologies, Inc. has selected IBM's DB2 Universal Database as its preferred database for developing current and future applications. IBM's DB2 Universal Database also will also support TradeMatrix(TM), i2's e-marketplace platform offering a wide range of solutions and services.
IBM's DB2 Universal Database specifically addresses B2B customer demands for high performance, rapid response time and 24x7 availability.
Currently, a number of key TradeMatrix services are supported by IBM's DB2 Universal Database, such as commerce, fulfillment and procurement, with additional services scheduled to be available soon. Planned new capabilities will include:

-- Customer data capture at the point of interaction
-- Personal access to TradeMatrix information using PDAs, in addition to workgroup and mobile devices, personal computers and large enterprise servers
-- Analysis of transactional data, using business intelligence
capabilities to provide a personalized buyer profile including
preferences, behaviors and interests

-- Ability to create personalized portals within TradeMatrix,
offering customized content, information and products to buyers

DB2 Universal Database Version 7 makes it simpler both for dot.com companies and large corporations conducting B2B commerce on the Web to gain competitive insight about their customers. It also can reduce application deployment time, in many cases by almost half, and perform high-speed Internet searches up to 10 times faster than traditional relational database search engines. To meet growing market demand, IBM also has integrated functions to make it significantly easier and faster for customers to migrate from other databases to DB2.
