WHITE PLAINS, N - 25 Oct 2000: -- IBM and Intel Corporation today announced an agreement to jointly bolster the Application Service Provider (ASP) market. The two companies will collaborate to support a significant and growing number of independent software vendors (ISVs) that want to migrate to the benefits of the ASP business model, and develop Web-hosted applications on the Intel® Architecture-based IBM eServer* xSeries*.

This agreement will focus on extending the capacity of IBM's existing ASP Prime* program, allowing more ISVs to receive business and technical assistance to move their applications to the Internet more quickly.

ASP Prime, IBM's flagship program for helping ISVs prepare their applications for the Web, gives software developers access to highly skilled technical consulting at solution centers located throughout the world. In addition to consulting, the centers offer a wide array of software, hardware, and tools to help ISVs ready their Web applications for hosting environments. IBM's ASP Prime program also provides ISVs business consulting before, during and after they use the ASP Prime Solution Centers and
ASP Prime services.

"Intel brings marketing resources along with their relationship with hundreds of ISVs to this collaboration," said Jim Corgel, general manager, IBM Global Net Generation Business. "Through the expansion of ASP Prime that this agreement brings, IBM will have increased resources to assist developers migrating their applications to the Web and to help them maximize the exciting potential of the ASP business model as deployed using Intel Architecture."

"IBM's ASP Prime program provides ISVs with the technical as well as business support they need to successfully migrate to the ASP business model," said John Davies, vice president and general manager of Intel's Solutions Channels Group. "Many of our ISVs are ready to take their existing applications to the Web. The success and leadership of Intel Architecture solutions in the Internet economy combined with IBM's ASP Prime program is a natural fit that we expect will provide significant value to the ISV community."

IBM currently has ten ASP Prime Solution Centers worldwide that offer business and technical consulting to enable ISVs to leverage the burgeoning ASP distribution model. In existence for less than a year, almost 75 ISVs with applications running on AIX, OS/400, and Windows platforms, have gone through ASP Prime, with dozens more currently in the process and hundreds under evaluation.

Intel's participation in ASP Prime will immediately increase emphasis and resource for the program, as well as help expand existing facilities and equipment beginning in 2001. The focus of this emphasis will be to support the migration of ISV applications running on IBM eServer xSeries* platforms that are based on Intel Architecture.

Intel's involvement in IBM's ASP Prime program complements the company's strategy to enable a comprehensive set of world-class solutions and applications running on Intel Architecture in all elements of e-business and in e-homes.

Recruitment of ISVs and other activities under this collaboration will begin immediately. Expansion of current ASP Prime Solutions Centers and equipment will commence in 2001.
