IBM and edocs Announce Global Strategic Alliance to Provide Online Account Management and e-Billing for Global 2000 Companies

Agreement Includes Integration of edocs' eaSuite(TM)with IBM Hardware and Software for IBM's Global Communications Industry; IBM Global Services to Assist in Customer Implementations

SAN FRANCISCO - 14 Aug 2001: IBM and edocs today announced a global strategic alliance to offer telecommunications service providers a broad suite of e-business services and solutions for online account management and e-billing. The strategic alliance is directed at telecommunications companies in the Americas, Europe and the Asia/Pacific region, and provides for extensive co-marketing initiatives as well as integration of edocs' eaSuite(TM) with IBM eServers* and middleware.

The online account management and billing solutions offered by IBM and edocs give issuers of bills, statements, and other account-based communications the ability to build strong online relationships with their customers. edocs and IBM will leverage edocs' eaSuite to deliver B2C and B2B solutions that enable these telecommunications companies to better serve their customers, increase customer loyalty, reduce customer care costs and increase revenue through highly personalized marketing.

Together, both companies have enabled the edocs' applications on IBM servers, storage and software. edocs will then lead with IBM's products in new sales situations. The integration of the two technologies will support IBM's eServers pSeries* running the AIX operating system, eServers xSeries*, DB2* Universal Database, WebSphere* e-integration software, and Content Manager OnDemand*. edocs will also continue to expand on its deployment experience with WebSphere MQ* messaging software, Tivoli* management software and IBM storage hardware, as well as expand its relationship with IBM Output Services*.

IBM Global Services is also providing integration and consulting services for edocs products. IBM Global Services has deployment experience with edocs' eaSuite and will continue to expand its pool of consultants trained on edocs' products. As part of the alliance, edocs' software will also be installed in select IBM demonstration centers.

Together, IBM and edocs will assist telecommunications service providers' use of the Internet to deliver e-bills and statements to their business and consumer customers. Using edocs' eaSuite in combination with IBM hardware, software and services, telecommunications service providers will be able to offer innovative online account management capabilities, including:

The companies are also collaborating to deliver specialized online account management solutions across a range of other vertical industries including: financial institutions, retailers, health care, insurance and utility services.

The strategic alliance is an agreement in which edocs benefits from the sales and marketing strength of IBM and further integration with leading IBM infrastructure products. The alliance also covers joint marketing programs, cooperative funding, performance benchmarking, as well as continued product integration and IBM solution center support of edocs solutions. As part of the global strategic alliance, edocs is now a partner of the highest level within IBM's PartnerWorld for Developers Program.

The edocs strategic alliance is another example of IBM's commitment to go-to-market with leading independent software vendors through the PartnerWorld for Developers program ( Under this initiative, IBM has signed agreements with companies such as Siebel Systems, Ariba and PeopleSoft. These alliances target industries such as financial services, retail and manufacturing and solution segments including enterprise resource planning, supply chain management, customer relationship management and business intelligence. The goal is to provide developers with access to new customers and revenue opportunities through IBM's marketing, sales, and solutions resources. As part of the agreements, developers commit to lead with IBM's middleware, server platforms, and services.
