Server Investment Tops $14 Million in Solution for Customer Relationship and Supply Chain Management

ARMONK, NY - 19 Sep 2001: -- Bertelsmann mediaSystems has selected IBM eServer[1] systems to restructure the company's IT infrastructure with new customer relationship management (CRM) and supply chain management (SCM) solutions for the international Bertelsmann Book Clubs.

Twenty-five IBM eServer pSeries UNIX[2] systems will run the new applications, which are based on SAP's mySAP CRM and mySAP APO software. The new systems will support around-the-clock availability.

"The performance of the IBM eServer pSeries servers with the AIX operating system are like a custom-made solution for us. The excellent cost-performance ratio convinced us," said Bernhard Menze, executive manager of the project.

More than than 20 million members of the Bertelsmann book club around the world are supported by the new applications. The operation of the IT infrastructures for Europe and the United States is centrally handled in Guetersloh, Germany.

The integrated software solution developed by Bertelsmann mediaSystems handles customer relationship management, financial and supply chain management systems. Elements of the solutions include software from SAP and other vendors.
