    Emory University Hospital Explores How Big Data Technology Can Help Predict Medical Problems

    Emory University Hospital's director of critical care Tim Buchman, MD, PhD, views the big data analytics prototype he's developing to help clinicians provide predictive care to critically ill patients. Using software from IBM and Excel Medical Electronics, the system will produce real-time insights that are expected to enable doctors and nurses at the hospital to intervene early for life-threatening conditions like heart failure, sepsis and pneumonia.     In response to guest feedback using data from IBM analytics, Affinia developed a ‘Put NYC on Mute’ amenity in the guest rooms of several Manhattan hotels to ensure a quiet night’s sleep, created flexible spaces within guestrooms for relaxation, sleep and work, and also enhanced in-room kitchen amenities.
