Peru Banks on New York State Technology
Date added: 19 Sep 2012
IBM technician Dario Zorman begins to stack packing foam around a new IBM mainframe computer destined for a bank in Peru. The company's Poughkeepsie, N.Y. manufacturing site began shipping the new IBM zEnterprise EC12 system Sept. 19. The zEC12 is the result of a $1 billion investment by IBM primarily in New York State. The company is seeing growing demand for its iconic mainframe systems in emerging markets, where 2Q12 sales were up 11 percent year-to-year. Ninety four universities in fast-growth markets around the world participate in an IBM program that teaches mainframe programming skills to computer science graduates, helping to ensure a long-term skill base for the IBM mainframe, which has been at work in corporate data centers for nearly 50 years.
