Auckland, New Zealand - 19 Oct 2016: IBM (NYSE: IBM) has implemented a cloud-based enterprise mobility management and security solution at Arrow International, a leading New Zealand construction company. The solution enables Arrow’s mobility strategy by improving security and streamlining management of over 500 smartphones and tablets for staff operating from ten offices nationwide. As Arrow begins deploying mobile apps to reduce the time spent by site staff on paperwork and administration, its IT team required a more effective way to safeguard employee mobile devices and apps.

Previously, devices would be returned to the office to be reprogrammed, incurring time, effort and cost. The IT team had no visibility over whether someone had jailbroken their phone, or if the device had a virus, exposing Arrow’s intellectual property to the risk of theft or loss.

Arrow implemented IBM’s MaaS360 enterprise mobility management solution which automatically detects and remediates malware on employee mobile devices. Integration with enterprise systems meant the company could use its existing applications on mobile devices.

“Security is integral to our business’ mobility strategy and IBM’s MaaS360 provided a comprehensive, cost-effective solution that enables us to rapidly deploy apps on the fly and provides the visibility we needed to effectively manage devices, making them fit for purpose,” says Wayne Broekhals, IT Manager at Arrow. “In addition to productivity gains, cost savings are considerable due to a reduced administration overhead, especially for devices that are stolen or have malware on them, since we can handle everything remotely.”

With a strong foundation in place, the IT team can now focus on deploying a wide-range of construction applications to its workforce.

“Mobility solutions offer significant benefits in cost savings and productivity to dispersed workforces like construction, but devices and apps must be efficiently and securely managed - detecting devices is only half the answer,” says John Vine Hall, Security Business Unit Executive, IBM Australia and New Zealand. “The cloud-based MaaS360 replaces manual processes so IT teams can focus on the other areas that are adding value to their business.”
