Sydney, Australia - 04 Oct 2012: IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that Australian start-up QuintessenceLabs is joint winner of the IBM Asia SmartCamp. Held in Beijing last week, QuintessenceLabs competed against six other finalists from across the region, securing a ‘wild card’ entry to the event and then taking out top honours. The finalists represented a new breed of entrepreneurship, with start-ups leveraging the power of business analytics, big data and other advancements in software innovation to help advance a wide range of industries.
The final decision followed two days of mentoring in Beijing, and was awarded on the strength of QuintessenceLabs’ compelling articulation of the business potential of its products and solutions. QuintessenceLabs will now go on to compete against other finalists from regional SmartCamp’s at the global final to be held in New York in February 2013.
QuintessenceLabs has developed tools and techniques that enhance information security by combining computing capability and Quantum Science. Focusing on the national security, banking and insurance, health and critical infrastructure markets, the company looks at the enterprise environment and creates solutions that allow customers to secure and manage effectively data-at-rest, data-in-motion and data-in use.
“We are thrilled to have placed as a joint winner for this year’s IBM SmartCamp Asia finals,” said Vikram Sharma, founder and CEO of QuintessenceLabs. “The experience for our business has been so overwhelmingly positive. For QuintessenceLabs, it has been wonderful to be part of such a holistic entrepreneurial experience and we continue to walk away from each of these events with so much value-add to our business. From the mentoring session feedback, to networking with innovative entrepreneurs and industry subject matter across from across the region – the whole experience has been fantastic.”
David Mast, regional manager, ISV and Developer Relations, IBM Australia commented on the regional win: “Considering this is the first time Australia has participated in IBM SmartCamp, and that QuintessenceLabs only secured a wild card entry to the Asia SmartCamp, it’s done extraordinarily well to take this opportunity and progress to the global final. That’s testament to the passion of the founder and the strength of business idea. We will certainly be cheering on this Aussie start up and hoping it can win at the global final in New York next year.
