Full biography

Brian Finn was Managing Director of IBM Australia from 1980–1993, and Chairman from 1991 to 1998. In a career spanning 35 years with IBM, he held a range of senior executive positions in marketing, software development and general management roles in Europe, the United States and in Asia.

Most recently, Mr Finn was the Chairman, The Gold Coast Innovation Centre; Chairman, Chesterfield Australia and Deputy Chairman, Griffith Health Institute. He has also been a Director of a number of companies and organisations, including Telstra, Sydney Ports Corporation, PowerTel, Heytesbury and AXA Asia Pacific Holdings.

Additionally, Mr Finn was a Member of the Business Council of Australia, Chairman and Director of Southcorp; Chairman of CitiPower; Chairman of the Council of the National Science & Technology Centre; Chairman of the Australian Education Council Review of Post-Compulsory Education; Chairman of the Australian National Training Authority; Chairman of Sydney Ports Corporation; and Chairman of Vita Group.

Mr Finn was made an Officer in the Order of Australia in 1990 for services to Business Industry, and Education. The Centenary Medal was awarded in 2001 for services to Australian society through technological industries.

He holds Honorary Doctorates from the University of Western Sydney, Griffith University and the University of Wollongong. He is a Fellow of the University of Technology Sydney.
