Each week, IBM will highlight a story from around the world where IBM engineers are collaborating with clients, business partners, ISV's and education institutions to bring the latest technology to the market in new and innovative ways. |
DID YOU KNOW.....
...that IBM, Sony, and Toshiba recently helped support the completion of a course on the campus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology around Cell technology - the same technology that is at the heart of Sony's PLAYSTATION®3? Students completing the four-week course, co-instructed by MIT and IBM, designed and implemented projects to run directly on PLAYSTATION®3 consoles.
IBM and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology teamed up to create an exciting learning opportunity for college students. Students with no background experience in parallel programming were able to tackle the challenge of creating a project from start to finish with ease. The best group project - a 3D version of the classic Pong game - was presented at The Game Developer Conference just this past March. The staff at MIT, coupled with the accessibility of IBM's engineers, turned this course into a success for everyone in attendance.
The groundbreaking Cell/B.E. processor - developed by IBM, Sony, and Toshiba - appears in products such as Sony Computer Entertainment’s PLAYSTATION®3 and Toshiba’s Cell/B.E. Reference Set, a development tool for Cell/B.E. products, as well as the IBM BladeCenter QS20. It is also embedded in custom Cell/B.E. based offerings from IBM Global Engineering Solutions.
IBM and MIT just issued an announcement on this today. See how IBM is collaborating with clients in unique ways in next Friday's installment.
