Collaborating on a global scale

How IBM engineers are collaborating with clients, business partners, ISV's and education institutions across the globe

Each week, IBM will highlight a story from around the world where IBM engineers are collaborating with clients, business partners, ISV's and education institutions to bring the latest technology to the market in new and innovative ways.

Did you know...

...as the crown jewel of the world-regarded US Department of Energy's Office of Science, the Illinois-based Argonne National Laboratory was the first national laboratory for the US and today boasts a research staff from more than 60 nations?

Along with their staff credentials, Argonne also recently chose IBM's Blue Gene/P system to ensure it will be the home to one of the country's preeminent computing facilities. Not only does this new system provide greater energy efficiency with new reduced power demand and lower operating cost, the Blue Gene/P is capable of carrying out 445 million million calculations per second. This means if all six billion people on Earth were participating in a science computation, each person would need to do 70,000 additions or multiplications per second to keep up with this system. Together with the newly installed Blue Gene/P, Argonne will continue to expand their research into how physical, chemical and biological systems behave.
