Collaborating on a global scale

How IBM engineers are collaborating with clients, business partners, ISV's and education institutions across the globe

Each week, IBM will highlight a story from around the world where IBM engineers are collaborating with clients, business partners, ISV's and education institutions to bring the latest technology to the market in new and innovative ways.

Did you know...

...the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), joined an elite list of U.S. research institutions with the announcement of their Multicore Computing Center (MC2), making it the second of it's kind in the nation?

Thanks to an award by IBM, the new center will be housed at the University and will stand as a national resource for new levels of scientific analysis, all made possible by the lab's foundational use of the Cell Broadband Engine (Cell/B.E.).

Originally designed by IBM, Sony and Toshiba for entertainment technology, Cell/B.E. has proven effective in all fields requiring hi-resolution imagery and multiple, advance processes. These have proven especially important in areas such as Geoscience, Medical Imaging, Aerospace Research and Financial Services - all of which will be addressed by research generated at the new Center.

The Center is scheduled to open later this fall, and will be available for departments within the University's system, as well as scientific endeavors off-campus.
