Each week, IBM will highlight a story from around the world where IBM engineers are collaborating with clients, business partners, ISV's and education institutions to bring the latest technology to the market in new and innovative ways. |
Did you know...
...only a handful of companies worldwide are capable of developing a new wireless technology called mobile WiMax? Now nex-G and Nu Horizons are joining forces with IBM's Global Engineering Services division to work on product development for a mobile WiMAX base station. The technology will enable cell phone and laptop users to go on-line at speeds of up to 70Mbps, or about 20 times faster than what is offered on mobile Internet services now.
The development project leverages nex-G's expertise in advanced broadband access technologies, Nu Horizons' worldwide sales distribution channel and IBM's PowerPC chip architecture. In the Asia-Pacific alone, the market for WiMax is expected to be worth US$8 billion (S$12.4 billion) in 2012, according to research firm In-Stat.
