Overview
Mayo Clinic MRI coil Researchers at Mayo Clinic, a leading research hospital in the U.S., recognized the need for a small magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) coil to diagnose injuries and health problems in limbs and in children without the trauma of a complete body scan. The researchers also knew the physics of how an MRI works, but did not have the know-how to make one. Mayo Clinic contracted IBM Engineering and Technology Services (E&TS) to design and build working prototypes, and the Design Consulting team developed the concept.
