Overview
Audio-video headset
The IBM Audio Video Speech Recognition System wireless headset combines a microphone for audio and a camera to "read lips", greatly improving speech-recognition accuracy in noisy environments. This device can be used to transcribe lectures in real time, record commodity trader transactions, and aid in more accurate communication between air traffic controllers and pilots.
The system's mouthpiece includes a microphone, camera and an infrared light. The ear piece includes boom adjustment and a speaker for two-way communication. The disk at the back of the neck houses the battery, radio transmitter and the adjustment mechanism for a customized fit. The disk counterbalances the system making it comfortable to wear for extended periods.
The IBM Audio Video Speech Recognition System was awarded a 2005 Gold IDEA Product Design Award sponsored by Business Week and the Industrial Designer’s Society of America (IDSA).
