Overview
Blue Gene supercomputer The IBM Blue Gene® supercomputing project explores
a new family of supercomputers that are optimized for bandwidth,
scalability and the ability to handle large amounts of data
while consuming a fraction of the power and floor space required
by today's fastest systems.
In November 2004, the University of Mannheim, Germany, the
U.S. National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center
and the University of Tennessee ranked the Blue Gene/L supercomputer
number one on the TOP500 list of the world's fastest supercomputers.
Blue Gene is expected to be used worldwide by government and
university researchers as well as businesses to tackle the
most advanced challenges in several very different fields,
including genomic research, automotive design, finance, weather
forecasting and fluid dynamics.
