Did you know...
...In December 2004, the New York Stock Exchange purchased 3,000 handheld devices custom-made by IBM engineers and designers? The devices were a part of the NYSE's TradeWork's processing system, allowing brokers to use the devices on the trading room floor to link to a wireless network where they buy and sell orders.
The IBM solution for the NYSE was an integrated offering, which included both software and hardware. IBM helped the NYSE form a solid backbone for this new order management and messaging system designed to manage more than 4 billion trades daily. The system is one of the world's most sophisticated examples of 'Extreme Availability,' which eliminates downtime.
