Reduce costs utilizing KVM open source virtualization on both IBM z Systems and IBM LinuxONE platforms by running more workloads with fewer system deployments to improve service levels and meet demands with ease.

Important news

KVM is a strategic open source component for the IBM z Systems and IBM LinuxONE platforms. KVM will now be offered through our Linux distribution partners for IBM z Systems and LinuxONE to help simplify the delivery and installation. Linux and KVM will be provided from a single source, and with KVM being included in the Linux distribution, it should make ordering and installing KVM easier.

KVM for IBM z Systems Version 1.1.2 will be the last release delivered by IBM. However, IBM will continue to provide the Linux and KVM enablement for z Systems and LinuxONE to the open source community, enabling our Linux distribution partners to deliver KVM and Linux together for existing and new IBM z Systems and IBM LinuxONE hardware.

The benefits of open source virtualization on KVM

Enterprise-level virtualization

Improve performance, scalability and security with a cost effective alternative to proprietary x86 virtualization.

Higher quality of service

Gain easy provisioning for predictability of delivery of service at high utilization rate.

Ease of use and efficiency

Use the familiar Linux interface to gain greater operational efficiency for your virtualization management.

The IBM team helped us get our data center ready to house our first enterprise-class server. We are also part of IBM’s Beta Testing program for KVM, the open-source hypervisor, giving us early knowledge of KVM on the LinuxONE platform.
