Note: z/VSE is no longer delivered on a 3480 tape cartridge. Depending on the order, z/VSE will be packaged and delivered either:
- On three tape cartridges (of type 3590 or 3592)
- On CD-ROM
- Through electronic delivery (via ShopzSeries) to be downloaded.
On System z processors (z114, z196, z10, z9, z990, z900, z890 z800) as well as MP3000 the CD-ROM option should provide a viable alternative (via the HW service console), at least for those installations where a previously installed z/VSE system is present. You can find the installation instructions for CD ROM provided files on the z/VSE homepage under documentation.

In addition to shipment on tape cardridges, z/VSE is available on CD-ROM and for download from the Internet through ShopzSeries. ShopzSeries is available for customers in certain countries. An overview of ShopzSeries can be found in the Help section of ShopzSeries.
With ShopzSeries the following can be ordered:
When ordering the z/VSE base tapes or optional products, you get a CD-ROM or download a file containing a tape image in AWSTAPE format. The z/VSE operating system consists of 3 files (z/VSE base, z/VSE extended base, DB2 Help Texts), for the optional products you will have only one file available. In case of multiple optional products ordered you will find all these optional products in this one file in z/VSE stacked format. In addition, a ReadMe file is provided, which points to the sources of installation instructions as listed below.

When ordering z/VSE service (APARs, PTFs) you get a binary job stream that contains the PTFs. Please follow the PTF installation instructions in order to install the service. For ordering Hiper/PE service, you must first provide a ' Installed Software Report' that contains information about installed products and PTFs.
