Common Information Model
Base element: Common Information Model (CIM), introduced in z/OS V1R7 and z/OS.e V1R7, is a standard data model for describing and accessing systems management data in heterogeneous environments. It allows system administrators to write applications that measure system resources in a network with different operating systems and hardware.

To enable z/OS for cross platform management, a subset of resources and metrics of a z/OS system are mapped into the CIM standard data model.

For encryption, CIM uses the DES 56-bit algorithm and, if z/OS Security Level 3 is installed, the TDES 168-bit algorithm.

Communications Server

Communications Server Security Level 3
Unpriced optional feature: This feature provides authentication and security services in an IP network environment. It provides support for packet filtering, tunnels, and network address translation (NAT) which enables secure communication over private and public networks. It uses the DES algorithm and it includes SSL triple DES (TDES), SNMPv3 56-bit, and IPSec TDES.

IBM HTTP Server
Base element: The IBM HTTP Server provides for scaleable, high performance Web serving for critical e-business applications. It is exclusive to z/OS. This element was previously known as a base element of z/OS under the names Lotus Domino Go, the Internet Connection Secure Server (ICSS) and the Internet Connection Server (ICS).

IBM HTTP Server now includes IBM HTTP NA Secure, formerly a separately orderable, unpriced feature. IBM Server NA Secure includes Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), Proxy Authentication, and a repository for home pages. It supports multiple IP addresses and double-byte character set.

IBM Tivoli Directory Server for z/OS (ITDS for z/OS)

Managed System Infrastructure for Setup
Base element

Managed System Infrastructure for Setup (msys for Setup) offers an approach for installing and configuring z/OS and products that run on z/OS. The configuration process is driven by a graphical user interface (plug-ins) that greatly facilitates the definition of customization parameters. The defined configuration is automatically applied to the system.

In z/OS V1R8, six of the seven plugins are removed from the Managed System Infrastructure for Setup (msys for Setup) element. The six plug-ins removed are:

z/OS UNIX

The only remaining plug-in, the DB2 V8 plug-in, is unaffected and remains available for enablement, setup, and configuration of DB2. Also remaining are the framework and DFSMS support.
