This z/OS 31-bit Java delivery supplies the Java SE 6 APIs and became generally available in March, 2011 with the IBM J9 2.6 VM, a new level of JZOS (2.4.0), enhancements to z/OS Java security, and exploits z196 instructions. This Service Refresh (SR1) contains cumulative service, plus JZOS 2.4.2, which contains new APIs to provide a high performance interface for reading and writing sequential data sets in record mode. z/OS Java API extensions and cookbook now available on alphaWorks for evaluation
A set of JZOS-related APIs and cookbook is available on alphaWorks for download. These APIs are intended for evaluation and non-production testing under the alphaWorks guidelines. The JZOS Cookbook 1.0.7 download contains an example inventory application and a chapter on building rich web interfaces.

  Diagnostic guides for SDK6, SDK5, SDK1.4.2, 64-bit, and SDK1.4.2 are available. These guides include a description of IBM-specific facilities and their use.
 
Java Security on z/OS - The Complete View, SG24-7610-00.
This IBM Redbooks publication describes and explains which z/OS security services can be exploited by Java stand-alone applications executing on z/OS. It is intended for experienced z/OS users with a moderate knowledge of Java, and experienced Java users with some knowledge of z/OS.

There have been occasional questions about usage of customer provided fonts with the z/OS Java product. This information is being added to provide some guidance.

This IBM Redbook is the second in a series of two about using Java stand-alone applications on z/OS. This book explains some topics in more depth and provides information about JZOS, a newly integrated function in the z/OS SDKs that can be used to run Java batch jobs and perform I/O. Guidance on updating Java SDKs and JREs for Daylight Saving Time (DST)
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (Public Law 109-58) was passed by the United States Congress. This law changes the time-change dates for Daylight Savings Time in the United States. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November. To guide you through the changes you need to make see Guidance on updating Java SDKs and JREs for Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes. System z Application Assist Processors (zAAP)
  Today IBM announced a lower cost alternative to general purpose zSeries processors. Customers can lower the cost of computing for z/OS Java-based applications by executing them transparently and without change on a zAAP. Running Java applications on a zAAP will depend on the SDK1.4 z/OS Java product in conjunction with IBM eServer zSeries 990 (z990) or zSeries 890 (z890) running z/OS 1.6. (April 7, 2004)
