About Details Hardware/Software requirements

Services provided in this offering

To assist you with the installation and implementation of z/OS and DB2, IBM Systems and Technology Group (STG) Lab Services introduces the IBM Rapid Deployment of z/OS and DB2 services offering.

This new service is intended for customers new to z/OS who want a predefined, preintegrated, preconfigured, and pretested z/OS and DB2 environment and who want this environment deployed quickly. IBM STG Lab Services can have a new mainframe system operational and optimized for use as a data server within days. The data serving environment is defined using IBM best practices and is configured for high availability and high scalability.

IBM STG Lab Services specialists perform the z/OS and DB2 installation, define the hardware server and storage components, and configure the software functions for system startup and operational use, including workload management and security. The following hardware and software components are configured: processor definition for logical partitions (LPs), storage controller, I/O device landscape, parallel sysplex, DASD definitions, z/OS PARMLIB, intuitive naming conventions for data sets, LPs, and data sharing groups, storage management (DFSMS), WLM policies, security policies (RACF), networking (TCP/IP) definitions, DB2 data serving landscape, and more.

The established infrastructure is a foundation for an extensible system, allowing the creation of up to 16 DB2 data sharing groups in a z/OS Parallel Sysplex cluster. This configuration leverages multiple system images in support of the same data sharing groups. z/OS Parallel Sysplex technology coupled with DB2 data sharing allows for both vertical and horizontal growth, resiliency, and the ability for you to manage increased workloads. Along with an extensible system, the IBM Rapid Deployment offering gives you the flexibility required to support the deployment of key business applications in three unique database environments - transactional VSAM, SAP, and data warehousing.

See the Hardware/software requirements Web page for a detailed list of prerequisite hardware and software required to implement Rapid Deployment of z/OS and DB2.

Depending on the level of in-house expertise, IBM recommends that new z/OS customers consider taking advantage of additional IBM-developed services and education that are available from STG Lab Services (for example, System z Customer Security Design Workshop), Global Technology Services (for example, z/OS Sysplex Operator Training), and other IBM authorized organizations.
