Migrating to a more efficient print environment
Delivering information in various formats is necessary to compete effectively in today's e-business environment. Businesses moving from traditional print to electronic distribution need flexible ways to handle various formats and incorporate printers and output management solutions from multiple vendors.

IBM Infoprint® XT Extender for z/OS® delivers output flexibility by allowing you to easily transform Xerox datastreams into IBM Advanced Function Presentation™ (AFP™) technology. With Infoprint XT Extender, you benefit from the open and device independent IBM AFP architecture without changing your existing LCDS and metacode applications.

Capitalizing on AFP technology
A print-industry standard, AFP is an architected, system-managed solution designed to deliver high-quality printing on a variety of printers. Its comprehensive resource management and page-level error recovery can help reduce the time your operators spend setting up and managing print jobs. Once resources are transformed and LCDS or metacode jobs are converted to AFP, printing is managed from end to end by IBM Print Services Facility™ (PSF™) on z/OS.

Managing resources for multiple printers from a single source
Infoprint XT Extender can convert Xerox print resources, including forms, fonts, logos and images, into AFP while retaining copies of the originals. It can also store formatting information from Xerox non-print resources, such as Job Descriptor Entries (JDE) and Page Descriptor Entries (PDE), to process and format jobs correctly. All resources are centrally stored on z/OS, so you don't have to coordinate the correct version of each resource on every printer.

Standardizing on a single application datastream in a multivendor environment
By combining Infoprint XT Extender with Infoprint Server and other z/OS offerings, you can accept input in many datastreams and formats. You can also convert datastreams to and from AFP, and direct output to a wide variety of printers, softcopy storage and presentation solutions.

Preserving your z/OS print environment
Many customers have chosen IBM's IBM eServer zSeries platform as the strategic system infrastructure for running their businesses' information systems. With Infoprint XT Extender for z/OS, you can keep your printing environment on z/OS while migrating to AFP, eliminating the need to connect and learn a new operating system.
