Addition of AFP Download Plus feature to provide an automated process for
generating print-ready files and preparing them for secure transfer to another location.
This function helps you to:
- Reduce time and effort to offload print jobs, lowering operational cost for sender and receiver
- Increase the likelihood of sending an error-free job the first time
- Reduce de-bugging and synchronization between sender and receiver
- Transmit data and resources securely
See the Specifications tab for additional information.
PSF V4R2 continues to build on IBM's leading edge production print software by
providing end-to-end management for color applications, based on the
industry standard AFP architecture.
The AFP architecture and PSF have been enhanced to manage color applications in
an architecture that can ensure consistent color output on a variety of printers and
from a variety of data stream.
The same application can be printed in color on printers that support the architecture,
or in high-quality grayscale on black-and-white printers.
PSF V4R2 and AFP color management can help you enhance the effectiveness of
customer communication by combining traditional transaction statement data such as
financial statements and invoices with highly tailored marketing messages based on
the individual customer's buying habits and preferences.
This type of production application, called trans-promotional communication, produces
a personalized document that can help you increase customer loyalty, increase
response rates to promotions, reward high-value clients, and may ultimately help
increase enterprise revenues.
Concurrent with delivery of PSF V4R2, IBM has delivered enhancements via PTFs to
the Infoprint Server optional feature of z/OS that allow PSF customers who have not
licensed the z/OS Infoprint Server feature to take advantage of its Printer Inventory
to define and manage PSF printers.
PSF administrators can now more easily define and modify printer configuration
information in the Printer Inventory.
They no longer need to specify printerConfigurations in the PSF Start-up procedure,
and in the PSF Exit 7 INIT call.
Enhancements delivered in PSF Version 3 include support for TrueType and OpenType font technologies in addition to a number of performance/ productivity features, usability features and application support.
Support for the TrueType and OpenType font standard provides a truly multilingual print environment through support of Unicode. Unicode is the universal standard encoding that defines a single encoding scheme to represent all of the characters used in every language in the world.
In addition to providing support for globalization of print applications, support for TrueType and OpenType fonts in AFP offers additional benefits related to seamless use of many popular typefaces, migration to a single font technology that lower costs and reduced need for training.
- Performance and productivity features:
- TCP/IP status display can enable faster network problem identification and resolution.
- Line mode migration supports migration of JES line printers to PSF printers.
- Usability features:
- AFP Statistics (AFPSTATS) report contains information about the resources used to print a document and about the job itself. This information is useful when you must change an application, move it to another system, or document it for recovery or outsourcing.
- Printer information display lets a system programmer or operator obtain a report about the functional characteristics of a particular printer without having to take a PSF trace or dump. This display function is useful in multi-printer environments where it is important to know which printers can support an application.
- TCP/IP status display enables faster network problem identification and resolution.
- Application support:
- XML support
- 2D bar code symbologies
- Finishing options, such as stapling, applied within a document
- Overlays and page segments included dynamically in line data
