Pagedefs and formdefs created using PPFA are intended for use on printers that use the Intelligent Printer Data Stream™. This includes a wide variety of cut sheet and continuous forms printers from IBM and third party vendors.

Software requirements
PPFA runs as a batch program in the operating systems listed above using one of the following methods to compile PPFA source commands into objects that PSF can use for printing to an IPDS™ printer:

  • Job Control Language (JCL) for OS/390 and z/OS
  • Job Control Statements (JCS) for VSE
  • Command execution in the Conversational Monitor System (CMS) environment for VM
  • PPFA command in the AIX and Windows command line interface

PPFA can be used in any IBM supported release of OS/390, z/OS , VM, VSE, AIX or Windows.
To print output using the resources created by PPFA, one of the following print driver products is required:

  • Print Services Facility™ for z/OS
  • Print Services Facility/VM
  • Print Services Facility/VSE
  • OS/400® with the optional PSF/400 feature
  • Infoprint Manager for AIX
  • Infoprint Manager for Windows

Note: New functions added to PPFA are not supported by all PSF and Infoprint Manager licensed programs on the same schedules.
