Business output transformation
In building an on demand business infrastructure, companies increasingly want “anytime, anywhere” output solutions. They need solutions that can help save valuable time and that can replace existing environments of incompatible print servers and printers with a scalable, flexible, easy-to-use and easy-to-manage output system infrastructure. The IBM Infoprint® Server feature of IBM z/OS® and its companion Infoprint Transform products support this objective by providing a highly available, well-integrated output solution to support business communication throughout your enterprise network and over the Internet to suppliers, partners and clients with a broad array of output options. As a result, you can help lower total cost of ownership for output delivery and management.
Infoprint Server can help significantly reduce the total cost of ownership for output delivery and management by consolidating print workloads, helping to improve print management productivity, and helping to protect your current investment in distributed printers and print applications. For example, you can encrypt data that Infoprint Server sends to printers and print servers that support Internet Protocol security (IPsec) and specify job attributes using JCL. IP PrintWay™ extended mode allows you to track the number of pages printed on printers that support HP™ PJL protocol. As a result, you can obtain more accurate accounting information and automatically restart printing after an error occurs from the page on which the interruption occurred.
Infoprint Server also allows you to transform data from one format to another remotely using Infoprint Transform Manager for Linux® or Infoprint Manager for IBM AIX® or Windows®. Infoprint Server can scale to meet your growing business needs as new users and devices are added to the network.
Infoprint Central, a component of Infoprint Server, is a Web-based print management user interface that allows help desk operators, print administrators and users to view print jobs, queues and printers. Depending upon their security authorization, they can hold, move, cancel and release jobs; turn printers online and offline¹; pinpoint network connectivity problems; track Infoprint Central actions by user ID¹; and perform many other functions for job and printer management. This print management tool can help you reduce the overall cost of distributed print management by making it easier and faster to train new operators and by giving them a productivity tool to more quickly diagnose and solve print-related problems.
The Infoprint Transform products can help protect your investment in AFP™ applications by converting their output into PCL or PostScript® for printing on desktop or shared departmental printers. You can also convert AFP output into encrypted PDF for distribution via e-mail and viewing using Adobe® Acrobat®. Infoprint Server support for Infoprint Transform Manager for Linux enables remote data transformation.
Infoprint Transforms to AFP let you consolidate LAN-based application output onto your reliable, cost-effective AFP printers. By converting PostScript and PDF formats into AFP, you can also handle new application workloads to reduce print times, improve reliability, and reduce printing cost per page by moving these applications onto your high-speed AFP production printers. |
