Changes for z/OS V1R8 UNIX System Services include the following:

Route precedence values can now be assigned for each network route.

Automatically back up locks in a sysplex.

Can now create a thread-level environment for the caller's thread using an existing USP.

Can now create a thread-level environment for the caller's thread without the need for a password.

A new interactive command line editing facility that makes it easier to edit dbx commands.

Enhancements added to the dbx plugin framework.

The number of open descriptors for processes has been increased to 512K (524288).

Support is now provided to enable Java J9 to run in user environments that do not run exclusively in PSW key 8.

Data can now be written to the /dev/operlog file and then sent directly to the sysplex message log, OPERLOG .

You can now use the new -F option, when using the extattr shell command to set the file format for a file.

The BPXBATCH utility now allows for the use of MVS data sets to be specified for BPXBATCH jobs.
-
Two new data types have been added to the C99 compiler: packed decimal and complex.

You can use the new /etc/inittab file to start daemons.
