bzip2 is a powerful data compressing utility. It is widely used on other platforms in the industry and has now been made available to run on z/OS UNIX System Services. Its usage syntax is intuitive and therefore makes it attractive for a wide audience. As with most compression utilities, it provides both compression and decompression capabilities.
cURL is an open source tool that can transfer data from or to a server or servers, using one of the supported protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, TFTP, DICT, TELNET, LDAP or FILE). The command is designed to work without user interaction. cURL offers a variety of useful functions like proxy support, user authentication, FTP upload, HTTP post, SSL connections, cookies, file transfer, resume, and more. It is a command-line UNIX application, and runs in the z/OS UNIX System Services environment.
sudo (su "do") is an open source tool that allows a system administrator to delegate authority in order to give certain users (or groups of users) the ability to run some (or all) commands as a superuser or another user, while providing an audit trail of the commands and their arguments. It is a command-line UNIX application, and runs in the z/OS UNIX System Services environment.
